What are you reading?

The literature curriculum for my sons' online school is well-rounded and we've enjoyed reading books such as, Huckleberry Finn, War of the Worlds, The Outsiders, The Hounds of Baskerville, and many more. So, during the school year, I've not had a lot of time to read for pleasure. But, when I do, I tend to devour several books in a row. [Is that called "Binge Reading"? :)] Over our Christmas break, I was given two books by an author I really enjoy, Alexander McCall Smith.

He writes two series that I am following, The Number 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Series, and Isabel Dalhousie Series. Over the summer I was able to catch up with Mwa Ramotswa and her sleuthing. BBC made a movie of this series, and it aired on HBO. We don't have cable, so I missed it. But I will be watching for the DVD!

And over our Christmas break I caught up with Isabel Dalhousie, a philosopher and observer who also seems to find herself in interesting situations with subsequent circumstances to solve.

The photos show some of those books in each series. The photos also show some of my new finds: a new braided runner and round braided placemats . I found at a cute store in town while waiting for my oldest to finish his 1st semester finals this week. When I found the shop, I didn't have a lot of time, so I will have to find another day to have a longer visit.

But, I did spot these. I already had a few throughout the house and love them for putting under lamps on tables, under candle holders, and glass vases, etc. They also help with keeping dust off of furniture! They add a little color, and (at least for me), they don't have to match!

So, what are you reading? Any favorite authors or series? or genre?

Have a wonderful weekend, and I hope you find some time to read!

I'm going to have to check into these books at the library. I love a good mystery. Right now I'm reading 'The French Executioner' having become obsessed by all things about the wives of Henry VIII after watching the Tudors and receiving the DVD's for my birthday.
Love the primitive mats. They'd look great on the dining table under a tureen of homemade soup to ward off the chill too! What time's dinner?

Hello Suzanne. Right now I'm reading the Beatrix Potter autobiographies and I actually just started reading "Little Women" the other night...I've not read that since I was a child...it's on Jenna's dresser and I saw it and just started reading :).

Love your runner and candle mats....what a great find :)

Hugs,
Doreen

Hi Suzanne,

I love detective novels..they are among my favorites. I have to say, I might be considered a binge reader myself. I'll read like crazy for awhile then take a break and the cycle goes on and on.

Hi Suzanne,
Interesting books...I'm not familiar with them but I love a mystery. Right now I'm reading Mrs. De Winter, the sequel to Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier.
I'm finding lots of time for reading with the weather being so cold.

Cute little table runner and mats.

Hugs,
Donna

#1 Ladies Detective Agency! Wish
we could watch it together.
Right now, I'm once again in
the world of Barbara Pym...

Unfortunately, I don't find the time to read a lot, but my public library has a HUGE assortment of audio books. I can listen to unabridged books in the studio or in the car. Right now I am listening to The Postcard by Beverly Lewis, who writes novels based on the Amish of Lancaster County, PA. I have a couple of Jane Austen books lined up, as well as Mark Twain.

Hey Susan! :)
Wanted to drop a note to let you know that Country Manor is closing! She sold the store in August they said and the new owner changed it to SUPER expensive items...barely a rooster to be seen. They changed the upstairs to an interior design office and opened another location up in Scottsdale. Guess with the change and the additional store he overextended.

Joe's is still there though! Thank goodness for that! He TOTALLY redid Liberty Market and turned it into a great place to eat. It looks AMAZING! I walked in to check it out and was so surprised when I saw him I said, "JOE!" He was like "who are you?" at first, but nice after that! lol

Hugs!
